Having spent most of my art life painting French scenes, I have finally produced one of my home town in Tonbridge Kent. This is the scene looking across the Medway ,over the big bridge up to the Norman castle with its motte and bailey guarding the river crossing. The De Clare family, friends of William the Conqueror, started buiding this in 1098 after the invasion and it is still mostly intact apart from loss of the curtain walls and very much worth a visit..
